A Leadership Transition: Milan Nedeljković to Succeed Oliver Zipse at BMW

Big changes are coming to the top ranks of the BMW Group as the company prepares to transition leadership amid its most intensive product cycle in history. After more than three decades of service to the company, Oliver Zipse will step down as chairman of the Board of Management, with Milan Nedeljković named as his successor. This carefully planned handover will see Nedeljković formally assume the position on May 14, 2026, the day after the company's annual general meeting.

Passing the Torch After Decades of Service

Oliver Zipse, who became chairman in August 2019, will conclude a distinguished career that began as a trainee in 1991. The Supervisory Board had granted an exception to its policy capping board membership at age 60 to allow Zipse to remain in his role until his contract's natural expiration in 2026. Nedeljković's own career path closely mirrors his predecessor's commitment to BMW, having also joined as a trainee in 1993. His background includes senior leadership roles as Managing Director of the crucial Leipzig and Munich factories, and he currently serves as Senior Vice President of Corporate Quality. His contract has been extended through 2031, ensuring stability for the brand over the coming crucial years.

The Road Ahead: Navigating BMW's Busiest Product Cycle

Nedeljković is set to inherit a company facing a period of intense activity and transformation. BMW plans to launch approximately 40 new or refreshed models by the end of 2027. This influx includes next-generation core models like the X5 and a refreshed 7 Series. Looking further ahead, the lineup is rumored to expand with exciting new additions, including a potential compact i1 hatchback, an i2 sedan, and a large, rugged SUV that will offer both hybrid and fully electric powertrains. This ambitious schedule will demand steady and experienced leadership.

The Neue Klasse Era Continues

Regardless of propulsion type, all future models will be fundamentally shaped by the company’s expanding Neue Klasse architecture—a strategy firmly established under Zipse’s tenure. The roll-out of this dedicated EV platform began with the second-generation iX3 electric crossover. This will be swiftly followed in 2026 by the next-generation 3 Series sedan and its crucial electric counterpart, the i3 sedan. Additionally, the company is preparing for the highly anticipated re-entry of ALPINA into the BMW Group's core portfolio, beginning with a new interpretation of the 7 Series, further solidifying the brand's position at the top of the luxury segment as this leadership transition takes place.

While prototypes are still heavily camouflaged, the design direction is clear, and it promises to usher in a new era of aesthetics, power, and interior technology. The Neue Klasse Design Language Takes Over If you want a sneak peek at the 2027 3 Series, look no further than the recently unveiled iX3 electric SUV. BMW’s design strategy is aligning its gas and electric models, meaning both the new 3 Series and i3 will embrace the clean, modern look of the Neue Klasse platform. This shift finally moves away from the more contentious kidney grille designs of the recent past, favoring a flatter, tauter aesthetic with tidier proportions and minimal visual clutter. The key difference between the two sedans will be subtle: the com...

Facelift For Bavarian Police Force BMW Vehicles

For the better part of 20 years, Bavarian police cars were manufactured with silver BMW 3 series vehicles. Prior to the silver color scheme, these vehicles sported a white base coat. Recently, the Bavarian government has decided to revamp their BMW police vehicles in terms of a color scheme. The new color scheme draws inspiration from the nostalgic white base coat used prior to 2003.  Modeled after their previously utilized retro white, blue, and yellow color scheme, new Bavarian BMW police vehicles have gone back to their roots by shedding the apparently outdated silver and green paint job. All new Bavarian police vehicle will be manufactured from BMW 3 Series Touring models with the new color scheme. This shift comes primarily from BMW's discontinuation of the Glacier Silver base color for the 3 series, but a higher resale value for white vehicles might also be a variable.  In contrast to the prior white Bavarian police BMWs, the new vehicles will be manufactured with a Mine...
