The 800-HP BMW iX4 and X4 M: Resurrection of the Coupe SUV

In an industry where the "crossover coupe" has recently faced a wave of cancellations, BMW is choosing a different path. While competitors have retreated from this niche, Munich is doubling down by transforming its sleekest silhouettes into electric powerhouses. The beloved X4 is not just returning; it is being reborn as the fully electric iX4, marking a pivotal moment in the brand’s "Neue Klasse" strategy.

Expected to be officially unveiled in the summer of 2026, the iX4 will serve as the sportier, more aggressive sibling to the recently debuted iX3. By combining a dramatic, fastback roofline with the brand's latest Gen6 eDrive technology, the iX4 aims to prove that efficiency and high-style design can coexist without compromise.

Quad-Motor Performance: The All-Electric X4 M

The biggest headline for enthusiasts isn't just the return of the silhouette, but the staggering power of its performance flagship. Reports indicate that the next-generation X4 M (and its X3 M sibling) will bypass internal combustion entirely to become a purely electric titan. Rather than adopting the "i" prefix, these models will likely retain their legendary "M" names while utilizing a revolutionary quad-motor setup.

This four-motor system, one for each wheel, is rumored to deliver up to 800 horsepower, a massive leap over the outgoing petrol-powered Competition models. With the ability to precisely control torque at every corner via the "Heart of Joy" central processor, the upcoming X4 M is being engineered to provide a level of agility and racetrack-ready dynamics that was previously impossible in a 2.5-ton SUV.

Bridging the Gap with M Performance

For those who want extra punch without moving to the full-fat M model, BMW is also preparing M Performance variants. The iX3 M60 is expected to debut later this year, boasting roughly 600 horsepower and utilizing the same 108.7-kWh battery pack found in the standard models. A similar iX4 M60 is anticipated to follow shortly after, offering a bridge between the standard dual-motor xDrive versions and the 800-hp quad-motor monster.

These M-badged electric SUVs will also feature M-specific suspension tuning, larger performance brakes, and the new "emulated gearshifts" that BMW is developing to preserve the emotional connection between driver and machine.

Production Timeline and the 2028 Horizon

While the standard iX4 is set to begin production in November 2026 at BMW’s high-tech Debrecen plant in Hungary, the ultra-high-performance M versions will require a bit more patience. Current roadmaps suggest that the quad-motor X3 M and X4 M won't enter series production until late 2027, positioning them as early 2028 model-year vehicles.

As the final X4 with a combustion engine has already rolled off the assembly line, the stage is now set for a total electric takeover. From the high-efficiency iX4 to the 800-hp X4 M, BMW is proving that the coupe-SUV isn't dying; it's simply getting a much-needed, high-voltage second act.

The 2027 BMW 3 Series Redefines Itself in Gas and Electric

While prototypes are still heavily camouflaged, the design direction is clear, and it promises to usher in a new era of aesthetics, power, and interior technology. The Neue Klasse Design Language Takes Over If you want a sneak peek at the 2027 3 Series, look no further than the recently unveiled iX3 electric SUV. BMW’s design strategy is aligning its gas and electric models, meaning both the new 3 Series and i3 will embrace the clean, modern look of the Neue Klasse platform. This shift finally moves away from the more contentious kidney grille designs of the recent past, favoring a flatter, tauter aesthetic with tidier proportions and minimal visual clutter. The key difference between the two sedans will be subtle: the com...

Facelift For Bavarian Police Force BMW Vehicles

For the better part of 20 years, Bavarian police cars were manufactured with silver BMW 3 series vehicles. Prior to the silver color scheme, these vehicles sported a white base coat. Recently, the Bavarian government has decided to revamp their BMW police vehicles in terms of a color scheme. The new color scheme draws inspiration from the nostalgic white base coat used prior to 2003.  Modeled after their previously utilized retro white, blue, and yellow color scheme, new Bavarian BMW police vehicles have gone back to their roots by shedding the apparently outdated silver and green paint job. All new Bavarian police vehicle will be manufactured from BMW 3 Series Touring models with the new color scheme. This shift comes primarily from BMW's discontinuation of the Glacier Silver base color for the 3 series, but a higher resale value for white vehicles might also be a variable.  In contrast to the prior white Bavarian police BMWs, the new vehicles will be manufactured with a Mine...
