BMW Extends Production of 4 Series and M4 Models Through 2029

Despite the growing trend toward SUVs and electric vehicles, BMW is reportedly extending the life cycle of its two-door coupes and convertibles. A new rumor circulating on enthusiast forums suggests the automaker plans to keep the current generation of the BMW 4 Series and the high-performance M4 in production well into the next decade.

Production Extension Confirmed by Internal Leaks

According to information posted by the well-known insider ynguldyn on the Bimmer Post forum, the production of the G22 4 Series Coupe and G23 4 Series Convertible, along with the G82 M4 Coupe and G83 M4 Convertible, is slated to continue until at least June 2029. The four-door 4 Series Gran Coupe (G26) is also expected to remain in production until June 2028.

This production extension is not entirely unexpected. In the United States, the 4 Series recently proved to be BMW’s best-selling passenger car, surpassing the 3 Series in sales during the first nine months of the year, underscoring strong consumer demand for the model.

Strategic Rationale and Future Updates

The decision to extend the 4 Series’ production aligns with BMW’s flexible powertrain strategy. The current model is built on the established CLAR (Cluster Architecture), a platform that the company can continue to utilize effectively. This allows BMW to maintain a diverse product offering, providing customers with a choice of gasoline and performance options without immediately committing to a fully electric replacement.

Although the current models recently received a refresh, they could undergo a second, minor update before production ends. BMW has already indicated that elements of its new Neue Klasse platform technology will be integrated into its current lineup over the coming months.

This continued commitment also ensures that enthusiasts will enjoy the M4’s celebrated performance for longer. The M4 is expected to retain its powerful straight-six engine, which produces 473 horsepower, until the end of its production run. This move effectively dismisses earlier unconfirmed reports that suggested the 4 Series would be discontinued or merged with the 8 Series due to perceived waning interest in two-door cars.

The 2027 BMW 3 Series Redefines Itself in Gas and Electric

The most significant overhaul in the history of the BMW 3 Series is coming. The Neue Klasse Design Language Takes Over If you want a sneak peek at the 2027 3 Series, look no further than the recently unveiled iX3 electric SUV. BMW’s design strategy is aligning its gas and electric models, meaning both the new 3 Series and i3 will embrace the clean, modern look of the Neue Klasse platform. This shift finally moves away from the more contentious kidney grille designs of the recent past, favoring a flatter, tauter aesthetic with tidier proportions and minimal visual clutter. The key difference between the two sedans will be subtle: the com...

Facelift For Bavarian Police Force BMW Vehicles

For the better part of 20 years, Bavarian police cars were manufactured with silver BMW 3 series vehicles. Prior to the silver color scheme, these vehicles sported a white base coat. Recently, the Bavarian government has decided to revamp their BMW police vehicles in terms of a color scheme. The new color scheme draws inspiration from the nostalgic white base coat used prior to 2003.  Modeled after their previously utilized retro white, blue, and yellow color scheme, new Bavarian BMW police vehicles have gone back to their roots by shedding the apparently outdated silver and green paint job. All new Bavarian police vehicle will be manufactured from BMW 3 Series Touring models with the new color scheme. This shift comes primarily from BMW's discontinuation of the Glacier Silver base color for the 3 series, but a higher resale value for white vehicles might also be a variable.  In contrast to the prior white Bavarian police BMWs, the new vehicles will be manufactured with a Mine...
