Inside the New 2027 BMW X5: Evolution of a Luxury Icon

While the all-electric iX5 version of BMW's flagship Sports Activity Vehicle has captured much of the recent spotlight, the gas-powered G65 generation X5 deserves equal attention. Embracing the brand's futuristic Neue Klasse design philosophy, the 2027 BMW X5 represents a sweeping departure from its G05 predecessor. With production already underway at BMW’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, this latest iteration combines fresh styling, serious digital upgrades, and refined powertrain options to maintain its benchmark status in the midsize luxury SUV segment.

Smooth Powertrains and Imposing Performance

At launch in the United States, the lineup centers around the X5 40 xDrive variant. Under the hood resides the revered B58 turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard xDrive all-wheel drive. In this application, the six-cylinder delivers an impressive 394 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque, propelling the luxury SUV from zero to 60 mph in a swift 5.1 seconds. Despite making more power and carrying additional structural weight, efficiency holds steady, earning an EPA-estimated 26 mpg combined.

Enthusiasts seeking alternative powertrains will not have to wait long. A plug-in hybrid X5 50e xDrive joins the roster later in the season, boosting output to 490 horsepower while offering an all-electric driving range significantly higher than the outgoing model's 40 miles. High-performance V8 choices and dedicated M models will follow, though the hybrid M60e will unfortunately bypass the American market.

Premium Interior Comforts and Practical Utility

Inside the cabin, BMW maintains its commitment to modern luxury and tailored comfort. Sustainable Veganza synthetic leather upholstery comes standard, while M Sport packages offer a sleek Black and Atlas Grey interior featuring soft Alcantara accents. Premium Merino leather upgrades remain available in several rich tones, including classic black and deep Tartufo. For ultimate highway comfort, an optional Luxury Seating Package adds multi-contour adjustments alongside ventilation and massage functions.

From a practical perspective, the X5 holds its own against key market rivals. Behind the second row, the cargo bay provides 27.3 cubic feet of storage space. Folding down the 40/20/40 split rear seats expands total cargo capacity to 67.7 cubic feet, comfortably outpacing competitive offerings like the Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q5 when fully loaded.

High-Tech Cockpit Integration and Safety Technology

The technological heartbeat of the G65 is defined by BMW's latest iDrive X system. The traditional gauge cluster is replaced by Panoramic Vision, which projects essential driving telemetry across a dark strip at the base of the windshield. Occupants interact with a vast 17.9-inch central touchscreen, which handles core climate, media, and vehicle settings via intuitive widget menus. Options like a dedicated front passenger display, automated doors, and crystal glass interior accents can be bundled through the available Luxury Package.

Driver peace of mind is reinforced by an expansive suite of active safety systems. Standard features include Forward Collision Mitigation, Active Blind Spot Detection, Lane Keeping Assistant, and adaptive distance control. Buyers looking for effortless highway cruising can equip the optional Driving Assistance Professional package, which unlocks hands-free driving capabilities to make long-distance trips simpler and far more relaxing.

The 2027 BMW 3 Series Redefines Itself in Gas and Electric

The most significant overhaul in the history of the BMW 3 Series is coming. For the first time, BMW is treating its most iconic nameplate to a parallel transformation, debuting a next-generation gasoline sedan and its all-new electric sibling, the i3 , side-by-side. While prototypes are still heavily camouflaged, the design direction is clear, and it promises to usher in a new era of aesthetics, power, and interior technology. The Neue Klasse Design Language Takes Over If you want a sneak peek at the 2027 3 Series, look no further than the recently unveiled iX3 electric SUV. BMW’s design strategy is aligning its gas and electric models, meaning both the new 3 Series and i3 will embrace the clean, modern look of the Neue Klasse platform. This shift finally moves away from the more contentious kidney grille designs of the recent past, favoring a flatter, tauter aesthetic with tidier proportions and minimal visual clutter. The key difference between the two sedans will be subtle: the com...

Facelift For Bavarian Police Force BMW Vehicles

For the better part of 20 years, Bavarian police cars were manufactured with silver BMW 3 series vehicles. Prior to the silver color scheme, these vehicles sported a white base coat. Recently, the Bavarian government has decided to revamp their BMW police vehicles in terms of a color scheme. The new color scheme draws inspiration from the nostalgic white base coat used prior to 2003.  Modeled after their previously utilized retro white, blue, and yellow color scheme, new Bavarian BMW police vehicles have gone back to their roots by shedding the apparently outdated silver and green paint job. All new Bavarian police vehicle will be manufactured from BMW 3 Series Touring models with the new color scheme. This shift comes primarily from BMW's discontinuation of the Glacier Silver base color for the 3 series, but a higher resale value for white vehicles might also be a variable.  In contrast to the prior white Bavarian police BMWs, the new vehicles will be manufactured with a Mine...

The 800-HP BMW iX4 and X4 M: Resurrection of the Coupe SUV

In an industry where the "crossover coupe" has recently faced a wave of cancellations, BMW is choosing a different path. While competitors have retreated from this niche, Munich is doubling down by transforming its sleekest silhouettes into electric powerhouses. The beloved X4 is not just returning; it is being reborn as the fully electric iX4 , marking a pivotal moment in the brand’s "Neue Klasse" strategy. Expected to be officially unveiled in the summer of 2026, the iX4 will serve as the sportier, more aggressive sibling to the recently debuted iX3. By combining a dramatic, fastback roofline with the brand's latest Gen6 eDrive technology, the iX4 aims to prove that efficiency and high-style design can coexist without compromise. Quad-Motor Performance: The All-Electric X4 M The biggest headline for enthusiasts isn't just the return of the silhouette, but the staggering power of its performance flagship.
