Elevating the Standard: Why Every Future BMW M Car Will Start at the Competition Level

BMW is taking a bold, customer-driven step to cement its position at the pinnacle of high-performance driving. In a strategic move designed to simplify the lineup and deliver maximum value, the performance division is announcing that the celebrated Competition specification will become the new standard for all future M models. This is not a change; it is an elevation of the M badge itself.

The Voice of the Enthusiast: M Listens to the Drivers

The decision to standardize the Competition model was based on overwhelming feedback from the people who know M cars best: the owners. As BMW M CEO Frank van Meel recently confirmed, the choice was clear: "More than 80 percent of our customers went straight for the Competition. So we said, let's just make that the standard one." In essence, the performance that once required an upgrade package is now the minimum expectation for every new M model. The base M model is being absorbed into the Competition spec, establishing a higher threshold of power, chassis tuning, and standard features from the moment a car leaves the factory. The message is simple: every new M model is now a Competition model.

A Simplified and Sharper M Hierarchy

This standardization brings a welcome clarity to the M lineup, allowing enthusiasts to easily navigate the range and choose the performance level right for them. The future M portfolio will focus on three distinct, high-impact tiers:

First, we have The New Standard M, which is the enhanced entry point, integrating all former Competition power and features, such as the 523 horsepower that the M3 and M4 will now offer as their base output. Second, the CS (Competition Sport) models will sit a step up in exclusivity, designed for the aggressive road driver and occasional track enthusiast with focused weight reduction, bespoke chassis tuning, and enhanced aerodynamic components. Finally, the CSL (Competition Sport Lightweight) models will be positioned at the absolute pinnacle—the ultimate, track-focused machines defined by extreme weight savings, the highest power output, and racing-derived components.

The Power Boost is Already Here

This high-performance shift is already underway. Newer additions to the family, such as the M2 and the upcoming M5, have launched exclusively in this heightened specification. For current models like the M3 and M4, this change means the power output previously reserved for the upgrade will now define the base offering, ensuring every new buyer benefits from the elevated performance. By taking the features and power that were once optional and making them standard, BMW M is not just streamlining its product line; it is reinforcing the promise that every vehicle wearing the M badge is, without compromise, the ultimate version of its kind. The future of M is brighter, faster, and more focused than ever.

Facelift For Bavarian Police Force BMW Vehicles

For the better part of 20 years, Bavarian police cars were manufactured with silver BMW 3 series vehicles. Prior to the silver color scheme, these vehicles sported a white base coat. Recently, the Bavarian government has decided to revamp their BMW police vehicles in terms of a color scheme. The new color scheme draws inspiration from the nostalgic white base coat used prior to 2003.  Modeled after their previously utilized retro white, blue, and yellow color scheme, new Bavarian BMW police vehicles have gone back to their roots by shedding the apparently outdated silver and green paint job. All new Bavarian police vehicle will be manufactured from BMW 3 Series Touring models with the new color scheme. This shift comes primarily from BMW's discontinuation of the Glacier Silver base color for the 3 series, but a higher resale value for white vehicles might also be a variable.  In contrast to the prior white Bavarian police BMWs, the new vehicles will be manufactured with a Mine...

2022 BMW X5 M Render Revealed

Based on recent spy photos of the new 2022 BMW X5 M model, a concept artist has rendered a very realistic, and potentially accurate, rendition of the vehicle changes. Although the exterior changes are minor compared to the 2021 model, the rendering shows updated headlights, a redesigned lower front end, and an added lip on the competition model.  In comparison, the majority of changes are reserved for the interior of the vehicle, and these updates include larger screens and a seamless curvature inspired design. No engine upgrades or modifications are expected, but several tech upgrades will certainly be showcased in the near future.  We look forward to the official reveal from BMW within the next few months. In the mean time, the concept render should satisfy your visual taste buds.
